How To Harness The Power Of Your Mind
Your mind is your most powerful tool. The human brain has 86 million neurons, is faster than any supercomputer, & generates enough energy to power a light bulb.
Not only that, the neurons in your brain send messages at faster than 240km/hour, with motor neurons sending information at an astonishing 322km/hour.
Your brain literally determines how you see the world, & is your greatest asset in achieving your goals. If you believe you can do something, you’ll find a way. There are countless stories of incredible people who believed in their dreams & found a way despite seemingly-impossible circumstances.
Like Lionel Messi, the famous football player who's widely regarded as one of the best football players of our time. I was so surprised to learn recently (from a book my football-obsessed son bought home from the library) that Lionel was born with a growth hormone deficiency which impacted his ability to grow. As a result, he needed to inject himself with growth hormone & even had to do this himself at age 11. This small boy with big dreams has become one of the world's best athletes, inspiring millions if not billions of people around the world.
Or Viktor Frankl, the author of Man's Search For Meaning, who was sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp in WW2. Amazingly, Frankl survived & accredited his refusal to abandon hope that he would one day be reunited with his beloved family & share his psychological insights about his experience with the world. Frankl went on to found logotherapy, a revolutionary type of therapy in which patients are guided to help discover their meaning and purpose. This has also impacted the lives of millions for the better, with his book alone selling 12 million copies.
Your mind truly is the most powerful asset. And it's essential to have your mind on your side & working for you in order to achieve your dreams. This may sound strange, but often we may consciously want something, but subconsciously not believe we're able to achieve it. This can come in the form of feeling a resistance to something, such as starting a fitness programme, course or class, feeling imposter syndrome or negative self-talk (those unsupportive thoughts like 'you can never do that' etc that impact ALL of us).
Cultivating a supportive mindset & harnessing the power of your mind takes effort, courage, & the willingness to say NO to the negative thoughts, but it's somethign that can be done by anyone. Here are some ways in which you can achieve this>
👉 Start by reframing your thoughts. Instead of saying, “I can’t do this,” say, “I can’t do this yet, but I’m learning.”
👉 Focus on progress, not perfection. Every step forward, no matter how small, is a win. Celebrate it!
👉 Surround yourself with positivity. The people you spend time with and the things you consume—books, podcasts, social media—shape your mindset. Surround yourself with people who believe in themselves & not limitations, & choose wisely.
👉 Take action, even if it scares you. The truth is, confidence doesn’t come first—action does. Every small action builds belief in yourself. Every single one of us feels nervous, scared and anxious at times - but you can push through these emotions and not let them control you.
👉 Practice stopping. This is a technique where, when you think a negative thought (and most people have far more negative thoughts than positive ones in the day), you say STOP out loud. This breaks the pattern & helps prevent that thought from becoming a self-belief (which happens when we frequently think the same negative or positive thoughts).
You’re capable of SO much more than you think. Your dreams are closer than they feel, but you need to take the first step. It might not be perfect, but with the right mindset, every step moves you closer to who you’re meant to be.
